Its hard to believe that 5 years ago I met the man of my dreams sitting on top of a speaker box in the Reef Hotel in Noosa. After more than 20 tiger airways flights, 36000 skype minutes and over 5000 text messages, on the 26th of January 2014 I married my best friend in front of 210 family and friends.
The theme of our wedding was modern yet traditional with elegant, classic tones of black, white and pastels. We wanted to incorporate the fast paced modern lifestyle we live here in Melbourne while still bringing warmth and romanticism to our day.
The bridal party were styled by the team at Petasimone Salon, Rathdowne Street Carlton North. They were greeted by hair stylist Mandi and makeup artist Kristy Wild from Wild for Beauty. Mandi and Kristy did an amazing job with the bridal party hair and makeup.
My hair and makeup was styled by the amazing Bernice Mansfield from Once upon a Bride. Bernice did an incredible job, especially with my crazy thick hair. She had very little direction from myself on what I wanted for the day but somehow just knew what would be perfect. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. She kept the hair elegant yet romantic and the makeup was neutral and not too heavy, perfect for a day to night look.
My gown was designed by Oglio- Loro Couture; it was the last dress I tried on and was just perfect. It had the right balance of classic elegance with modern style from the Parisian beaded lace to the silk chiffon layers of the train. Sam was amazing to deal with and was such a pleasure and privilege to be in the presence of such fashion royalty.
Being a podiatrist you would think that sensible comfortable heels may have been on my agenda. My shoes were nowhere near podiatry friendly – but they were glamorous and complimented my gown completely. The Jimmy Chooheels were a steal after searching far and wide across Melbourne for something that would complete my look. I wore Chanel crystal drop earrings, an engagement gift from my koumbara and a crystal tennis bracelet from Swarovski.
The fluffy bouquets were created by Jolie from Centrepiece by Design who also did the flowers and theme for our wedding reception.
We had the absolute pleasure of dealing with the giant personality of Basil and Eva Beke who guided us step by step about what our vision and feel was for our day. We discussed types of flowers we loved like silver suede, the soft David Austin roses with Andromeda and berries which created a romantic and rustic feel while still being quite modern.
This continued with our bridal table with short and tall vases filled with flowers, to our cake floristry and our centrepieces which looked like something out of the deep sea dripping with crystals and beaded wrapped bowls with candles and flowers.
We married at St John the Forerunner & Baptist Greek Orthodox church in North Carlton with a traditional Greek orthodox ceremony, the same church my parents were married in, 28 years ago.
We made sure to try keep the vibe of our day relaxed with photos at the Exhibition Street gardens amongst the Australia Day picnic goers. I wanted to make sure everyone still felt relaxed, I didn’t want any of our family or friends to feel the day was too stuffy or over the top. We both agree that the photos capture this perfectly.
The reception was a big party that still captures the romance and love between Tom and I. The harsh dark tones of Atlantic groups Peninsula C walls with the softness of the pastel soft tones of the floristry, candles, draping and venetian glass chandelier really helped to set the tone of the evening.
We loved Peninsula from the moment we walked into its versatile event space. From the horizontal chandelier that stretched across the room to the impeccable food and service, one of the many reasons we picked the space to host our wedding.
We ordered a 3 tier red velvet cake from Coco Cakes and danced to music from David Krsteski and Greek band trioGlendi – who had everyone dancing the night away.
The night ended as quickly as it started with fireworks on the docklands waterfront courtesy of celebrations for Australia Day. The day was incredible and perfect in every way. John and Laura from Sujon were able to capture every aspect of the day, along with the amazing boys from Purple ribbon who provided us with our video. We are absolutely thrilled with the end result.
