I never pictured what my wedding day would be like, but I knew exactly what I didn’t want; and that was a big white fairytale wedding full of stress and drama. I was never going to be a ‘bridezilla’.
When Michael took me by surprise and proposed on a romantic hot air balloon ride over my favourite wineries in the Yarra Valley, we knew a surprise wedding was the perfect way to keep our day simple, stress free and to keep the focus on mine and Michael’s love for each other and our family and friends who have loved and supported us along the way.
Mum had the pleasure of announcing to our guests that they were in fact attending Michael and my wedding. Having dad by my side when hearing people’s reactions was perfect and walking down the aisle (up the stairs) looking up at our guests leaning over the balustrade is something I will never forget.
Michael said ‘when Strong by London Grammar started playing and my future wife appeared at the bottom of the stairs our eyes locked and I felt an immense sense of emotion’.
Celebrant – Jill Hosken. Jill was flexible, supportive and enthusiastic. We highly recommend.
Dress – Carla Zampatti. It was all about the back. Simple, elegant and very me.
Flowers – None. We kept it simple.
Jewellery – Amy Renshaw. The earrings were a burst of colour with a touch of bling.
Make-up – Cynthia Smyth. The photos say it all.
Music – Luke Mathews. Having live music was very important to both Michael and I. Luke was a breeze to deal with and produced some amazing sounds on the day.
Photographer – Sujon Photography. I stumbled across John after reading several outstanding reviews online. John’s brief was to capture the look of surprise on people’s faces when they found out it was a surprise wedding; that is exactly what we got. We could not be happier with the photos and have received several comments from our guests about John’s professionalism and ability to capture the moment.
Venue – Comme. Elegant with a modern twist. We couldn’t have asked for better service on the day with the staff seeming as excited to keep the secret under wraps as we were.
