There is no doubt that there is something magical about capturing moments using black and white film. I was lucky enough to be taught by the best of the best at PSC when I studied photography 1999-2002. It was love at first sight when I saw my very first fibre based prints. Our lecturers did not allow us to use “plastic” paper known as resin coated. I spent a lot of time in the darkroom, experimented with different films, used all sort of toning techniques and produced truly beautiful prints. A lot of them are still on display here in Mordialloc including rare images of Kylie Minogue, Nicole Kidman and Megan Gale. Some of my peers have mentioned more than once that I do take better photographs when I use black and white film. To be honest I am not aware of that at the same time there is truly something magical about using a roll of film with 36 exposures. Every single one of them counts and that in itself slows you down. I will elaborate on this more in the near future in the mean time enjoy some of by b/w images capture on film (Kodak Tri X).
